This 1957 Porsche 356A 1600 coupe was reportedly taken off the road in 1986 and was acquired by the current owner as a stalled refurbishment project in November 2023. Subsequent work involved a repaint, a reupholstered interior, a reseal of the four-speed manual transaxle, and an overhaul of the brakes. The car is finished in black over green leather and is powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four. Additional equipment includes 15? Möbelwagen wheels, a luggage rack, driving lamps with yellow lenses, body-color bumpers, and bucket seats. This 356A coupe is now offered in California on dealer consignment as part of Mohr Imports’ UpShift Collection with a copy of the Kardex, a Reutter Certificate of Production, the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Montana title.
This Reutter-built example came finished in black (5701) and was reportedly stripped, coated in primer, and received repairs to the battery box under prior ownership. A repaint was carried out following the owner’s acquisition, and additional work involved replacing the headlights and window seals as well as the chrome apart from the rear quarter windows. LED bulbs have been added.
Black-finished 15? Möbelwagen wheels are mounted with 185/65 BFGoodrich Advantage tires. The drum brakes were rebuilt during the refurbishment and a dual master cylinder was installed. The suspension was also overhauled and the tie rod ends replaced. The car rides on Sachs front and Koni rear shocks.
The adjustable front bucket seats and rear seats were reupholstered in green leather by Autos International of Escondido, California in 2023. The dash pad and door panels were also re-trimmed at that time, and sound deadening was added throughout the cabin, including on the roof. A replacement headliner and charcoal carpets were installed in addition to retractable three-point front seatbelts and a replacement wiring loom.
The two-spoke steering wheel was re-covered with black leather and green stitching, and the horn ring was re-chromed. VDO instrumentation has been fitted with LED bulbs and consists of a central 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge monitoring oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 33k miles, which is not considered to be accurate. Less than 1k miles were added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.
The 1.6-liter flat-four was equipped from the factory with dual Solex 32 PBIC carburetors and was rated at 70 horsepower and 81 lb-ft of torque. The engine was reportedly rebuilt under prior ownership. A replacement Dansk muffler was installed and the starter replaced during the refurbishment.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, which was resealed under current ownership. An undercoating was also applied to the chassis.
The copy of the Kardex lists the factory color and serial numbers.
The car is titled using engine stamping 64740 shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on the Kardex. A photo of gearbox stamping 13540 is provided in the gallery.
A Reutter Certificate of Production also accompanies the vehicle.
