This 1966 Lotus Elan S3 was refurbished and modified for vintage racing in the late 1990s, and it was campaigned in various SCCA events before being acquired by the current owner in 2016. The replacement twin-cam 1.6L inline-four is fitted with dual Weber carburetors and was overhauled in 2018, and it is linked with a Quaife four-speed transmission with close-ratio Bullet gears and a limited-slip differential. A roll bar with doors bars has been installed along with a cut-down windscreen, 13? Minator wheels, four-wheel disc brakes with a dual master cylinder, AVO front and Spax rear shocks, a fire suppression system, a fuel cell, fixed-back bucket seats, a quick-release steering wheel, and a custom exhaust header. This Elan race car is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve in Monterey, California, with 2018 dynamometer results, an SCCA logbook, records, and a bill of sale.

The factory A pillars, windshield, and convertible top equipment have been removed, and a roll bar with door bars and cut-down windscreen have been added. The car was repainted green during a refurbishment between 1998 and 1999, and crash damage was repaired in late 2000. A metal plate covers the factory fuel filler and the removable hood is secured with pins. Flaws in the finish are shown in the gallery below.

The 13? Minator alloy wheels are mounted with 135/545 Hoosier tires. The suspension has been modified with reinforced upper and adjustable lower A-arms, AVO front shocks, and Spax rear shocks. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with a dual-circuit master cylinder.

The cabin has been partially stripped and outfitted with custom door panels and fixed-back Kevlar-reinforced seats trimmed in red leather along with a driver-side Simpson multi-point harness, which is expired. A Fuel Safe fuel cell is mounted in the trunk, and further appointments include a Lotus-branded wooden shift knob, a fire-suppression system, custom switchgear, and a dash-mounted kill switch.

The three-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and mounted on a quick-release hub. A woodgrain dash panel houses a Stewart-Warner 10k-rpm tachometer along with vehicle control switches and VDO gauges monitoring oil pressure, oil temperature, and water temperature. The car is not equipped with an odometer, and total mileage is unknown.

The replacement twin-cam 1.6L inline-four was overhauled in 2018 by Ivey Engines of Portland, Oregon, and is said to be equipped with a Farndon forged steel crankshaft, JE 11:1 compression pistons, Vegantune-specification camshafts, electronic ignition, and a Kirk exhaust header. Induction is via dual Weber 45 DCOE carburetors, while cooling is through a Griffin aluminum radiator as well as an auxiliary oil cooler. The results of a 2018 dynamometer test are shown in the gallery, and the seller notes that the car has participated in one track day since the engine overhaul was carried out that year.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Quaife four-speed Ford Type E manual transmission with close-ratio Bullet gears, a Hewland limited-slip differential, and a rear axle with 4.1:1 gearing. A twin plate clutch and upgraded CV-joint half-shafts are also said to be installed.
