This 1966 Lotus Elan S2 was owned by marque specialist Dave Bean for several decades before being purchased by the current owner in 2018. It is finished in silver over black and powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a 123ignition distributor, 13? knock-off steel wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, lift-up windows, a heater, and a wood-accented dashboard. A mechanical refresh in 2024 included installing a rebuilt semi-close-ratio four-speed transmission and heavy-duty clutch assembly, resurfacing the flywheel, rebuilding the water pump, and replacing the fuel pump, front crankshaft seal, engine gaskets, hoses, and CV axles. This Elan is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean California title.
The fiberglass bodywork is finished in silver, and exterior equipment includes a black soft top, a top boot, retractable headlights, chrome bumpers, and a single exhaust outlet.
The 13? steel wheels are secured with three-eared knock-offs and wrapped in 165-series Michelin XAS tires. The car features four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. The left rear wheel drive pin was replaced in 2024.
The cabin houses twin bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl. Interior equipment includes a wood-accented dashboard, seatbelts, lift-up windows, a glovebox, an AM radio, and a heater.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.
The twin-cam 1.6L inline-four features dual side-draft carburetors. A 2024 service at Spencer’s Motorsports in Livermore, California included installing a 123ignition Bluetooth distributor, rebuilding the water pump, and replacing the front crankshaft seal, fuel pump, generator belt, thermostat, spark plug wires, cam cover gaskets, timing cover gaskets, front cover gasket, starter ring gear, and oil pan gaskets.
A rebuilt semi-close-ratio four-speed gearbox and heavy-duty clutch assembly were installed in 2024. The flywheel was also resurfaced and new CV axles were installed. Photos of cracks and repairs in the underside fiberglass can be viewed in the gallery.
