This 1961 Lotus Seven is a right-hand-drive example that was imported to the US in the mid-1970s. The car then spent most of its time in New England before it was purchased by the current owner in 2010 and eventually relocated to California. Power is provided by a 1.5-liter Ford Cosworth inline-four that was overhauled in 2021, and shifting is via a four-speed manual transmission. Featuring exposed aluminum bodywork with an orange-finished nose and fenders, the car rides on 13? Minilite-style wheels and is further equipped with front disc brakes, dual Weber carburetors, a side-exit exhaust system, and a roll bar. Inside, fixed seating trimmed in black upholstery is accompanied by a driver’s multi-point harness, a Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a fire extinguisher. This Seven is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with service records dating to the 1980s and a clean California title.
The car features aluminum bodywork over a tubular frame, and the unpainted hood, side, and rear panels are accompanied by an orange-finished nose and fenders that were repainted under current ownership. Exterior details include a side mirror, wind deflectors, an external kill switch, and a side-exit exhaust system. Black tonneau covers for the cockpit and rear compartment will accompany the car along with a soft top and side curtains.
Panasport decals are adhered to the 13? Minilite-style wheels, which are mounted with 145-width Vredestein Sprint T80 tires. The car is equipped with front coilovers, and stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The right-hand-drive cockpit houses fixed-back seats trimmed in black vinyl with orange piping. A G-Force multi-point harness is outfitted for the driver, while a latch-and-link lap belt is equipped for the passenger. A fire extinguisher is mounted behind the seats, and further details include a bare aluminum center tunnel and footwells, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a roll bar.
The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts a black vinyl-covered dashboard housing a Smiths 130-mph speedometer and 9k-rpm tachometer along with auxiliary gauges monitoring amperage, fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 76k miles.
The 1.5-liter Ford Cosworth 116E inline-four is equipped with dual Weber 40DCOE18 carburetors and was overhauled in December 2021 by Ivey Engines, Inc. of Portland, Oregon. Work involved resurfacing the cylinder head as well as replacing the crankshaft, bearings, pistons, timing chain, oil pump, and oil pan. A finned Cosworth valve cover, an electric fan, and a two-into-one exhaust header are fitted. The results of a dynamometer test following the rebuild are shown in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
