This 1968 Porsche 912 Karmann Coupe is finished in Burgundy Red (6808) over Black Leatherette (B) interior and showing 53k miles. This Black plate California car was believed to be sold new at Wester Porsche Audi here in Monterey, CA.  Owned by a Porsche enthusiast and PCA participant for the past 10 years. 

S/N 12802595 is offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and black California license plates.

Engine

The engine bay is tidy and laid out in a correct fashion with rebuilt Solex carburetors. External oil cooler installed for better cooling. Motor rebuilt at 88,200 miles, as indicated by the driver’s manual. Newer distributor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, rotors and condenser are installed. Hoses, fittings and belts have been inspected and passed safety standards. Valve adjustment done 5k miles. Only Swepco products used.

 

Exterior

The shut lines and gaps are good all round. Overall the paint is fair with small body dings and imperfections found throughout including some larger cracks on the rear deck-lid. No evidence of accident damage.  Repainted years ago in its original color. Factory paint still in the door jams and engine bay. Doors still ping when shutting.

Door pockets, seats material and headliner are original. Floor pans are original; a new battery box was installed. Original numbered rear deck-lid grill is noted.

Correctly date coded steel wheels with hubcaps are mounted on newer Falken tires. Full Fuch style spare located in the front trunk area.

 

Interior

Dressed in standard black leatherette material, which shows a healthy amount of patina. Original seats with factory headrest (later production 912) Carpets are a bit thin and worn around both floorboards but would be an easy replacement.

Dash is wavy on the passenger side but free of cracks or splits.

Gauges are clear and operate as intended and there is a period radio mounted.

 

The Drive

After a test drive locally the car proved to be a quality driver in every way. Good clutch and syncro. Steering was tight for the nimble short wheel base example. Brakes responded and the suspension and overall ride was quite enjoyable. 


The car, which is listed on the 912 Registry, is also accompanied by its original Porsche Drivers Manual & Pouch. Offered exclusively with Mohr Imports Inc. out of the Monterey, California showroom with a clean California title in the seller’s name.
