This Porsche 912 coupe was purchased by the current owner’s father as a gift for her upon her discharge from the military in 1965. Delivered in January 1966, it has since remained in the bay area with black-on-yellow California plates and been driven approximately 325k miles. The car has been twice refinished in its original shade of Signal Red, and it was ordered with a five-speed manual gearbox, black leatherette upholstery, and Dunlop tires. Notable work over the past 20 years consisted of a rebuild of the 1.6-liter flat-four, retrimming the interior, and most recently a respray of the exterior in 2016. This SWB 912 coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with a window sticker, service records dating to the 1960s, handwritten notes, black California plates, and a clean California title.
A handwritten letter from the owner’s father is included with the car that outlines the deposit to purchase the 912.
Documents outlining the subsequent order of the car are provided in the gallery and outline specifications and details of the delivery.
The car was ordered in Signal Red, and it has been twice repainted – most recently by Koss Collision Center in 2016, at which time trim and rubber components were replaced.
The black-on-yellow California plates are included.
The 15? wheels are mounted with 165/80 Nexen tires, and Bilstein shocks have been installed out back.
The car was ordered with black leatherette upholstery, and the cabin was retrimmed in 2010 by ABC Auto Upholstery in San Jose.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of green-script VDO instrumentation including a centrally mounted 7k-rpm tachometer flanked by a 120-mph speedometer and a combination gauge for fuel level and oil temperature. The five-digit odometer has rolled over three times and now shows 10,500 miles, and records indicate the owner has driven the car approximately 325k miles.
The 1.6-liter flat-four has been rebuilt two times, most recently in 2008 by Precision Motorworks in Santa Clara.
Engine number ?742523? is shown stamped above and listed on the 1965 Statement of Origin displayed in the gallery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.
Documentation consists of the original purchase agreement, correspondence from Cars International and Porsche, historical registration, and records as displayed in the gallery. The California title is a duplicate.
According to the selling dealer, proceeds from the sale of the will be distributed amongst the The Humane Society of Silicon Valley, the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, and Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael.
