Vehicle Overview
This 1970 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda is one of 2,724 examples produced for the single model year and is finished in Rallye Red over black. Created to meet SCCA homologation requirements, the All-American Racer specification included a 340ci V8 engine, a unique fiberglass hood with a functional scoop, front and rear spoilers, longitudinal strobe stripes, and a side-outlet dual exhaust system. Additional equipment consists of a three-speed automatic transmission, a Sure-Grip rear end, triple two-barrel carburetors, power-assisted front disc brakes, and 15? Rallye wheels along with a Rallye gauge cluster, a Slap-Stick shifter, and high-back bucket seats. The car reportedly underwent a refurbishment in 2008, and the engine was rebuilt in 2022. Nominated for the National award from the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) in 2017, this ’Cuda AAR is now offered on dealer consignment with 1970 Hamtramck Registry documentation, manufacturer’s literature, window stickers, service records, and a clean California title.
The body was reportedly refinished in Rallye Red (FE5) with longitudinal strobe stripes and AAR graphics during a 2008 refurbishment. Features include a matte-black fiberglass hood with a functional scoop, side-exit exhaust outlets, a ducktail rear spoiler, body-color sports mirrors, and driving lamps.
Rallye wheels wear polished trim rings and are wrapped in G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires. A space-saver spare is located in the trunk. The AAR Trans Am Package included front and rear sway bars and power-assisted front disc brakes.
Cabin finishes include black upholstery with matching door panels, black carpeting, and woodgrain trim. Shoulder belts are fitted for the high-back front bucket seats, and equipment includes a center console, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a Slap-Stik shifter. The seller notes the solid-state AM radio is inoperative.
Rallye Instrumentation consists of a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a combination gauge, and a clock. The five-digit odometer shows 45k miles, approximately 875 of which have been added by the current owner.
Equipped with a triple two-barrel “Six Pack” carburetor induction system, the 340ci V8 was factory rated at 290 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt in May 2022 by APM Custom Engines in Morgan Hill, California, and subsequent work included an oil change, coolant flush, power steering service, and replacement of the thermostat, coolant hoses, and spark plugs.
The engine stamping includes the digits 294099, which match the final six digits of the vehicle’s serial number. Additional photos depicting component stampings and identification numbers are provided in the gallery below.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 727 Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission and a Sure Grip limited-slip differential.
Items accompanying the sale include manufacturer’s literature, window stickers, service records, and past awards achieved by the car, which are pictured in the gallery below.
