Vehicle Overview
This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is finished in Signal Red with a matching removable hardtop and is powered by a replacement 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, 14? wheels with painted covers, power steering, door-edge guards, black MB-Tex upholstery, a wood center console tray, a clock, an aftermarket Pioneer stereo, and Audiobahn speakers. This W113 was acquired by its current owner in 2006 and is now offered on dealer consignment in California with service records, a copy of the data card, and a clean Alaska title in the owner’s name.
The car was finished in Signal Red (568) from the factory and has been repainted. Exterior details include a body-color removable hardtop, chrome bumpers with overriders, a driver-side mirror, and dual exhaust outlets. Status door-edge guards have been added on both doors. A City of Monterey parking permit sticker has been applied to the left-rear bumper, where corrosion is pictured up close in the gallery below.
The 14? wheels have polished covers with red centers and are mounted with older 195/70 Yokohama GS4 tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and curbing is visible on the wheel covers.
The cabin features black MB-Tex on the seats as well as matching door panels, dark brown square-weave carpets, and a red-painted dashboard. Equipment includes an analog clock, a wood center console tray, storage pockets in both doors, and an aftermarket Pioneer stereo paired with Audiobahn speakers behind both seats. Wood trim on top of the dashboard is misaligned.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a horn ring and frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 24k miles, approximately 7,500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.8-liter inline-six is said to be a replacement with an unstamped block, and it features mechanical fuel injection. The battery was replaced in 2017.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Corrosion is noted, and additional underside photographs can be found in the gallery below.
