Ended on Bring a Trailer Auctions at No Reserve: 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190SL
Contact us for any information regarding our Monterey Car Week Collection Sale.
This 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is powered by a 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in blue over Natural leather. Equipment includes a removable hardtop, a tan convertible top, a tonneau cover, 13? steel wheels with body-color hubcaps, an AM/FM radio, and twin Mikuni carburetors. The car was refurbished approximately 20 years ago and was purchased by the current owner in 2004. Service since 2018 has included rebuilding the carburetors, changing the oil, and replacing the tires. This 190SL is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve as part of the Mohr Imports Monterey Collection Sale with manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a California title that lists the model year as 1959.
The car is said to have been refinished in Dolphin Blue and features a removable large-window hardtop as well as an a tan convertible soft top and a tonneau cover. Additional equipment includes a driver-side mirror plus a bright windshield surround, grille, and bumpers. The selling dealer notes that repairs were made to the floor when the car was refinished, and the passenger side displays poorly matched touch-up paint. The tan convertible top exhibits stains and is pictured in the gallery below.
Steel 13? wheels wear chrome trim rings, hubcaps with body-color accents, and 185/80 Maxxis whitewall tires that were mounted in February 2022. The car is equipped with a control-arm front suspension, rear swing axles with coil springs, and power-assisted drum brakes.
The cabin has been redone and features low-back bucket seats upholstered in Natural leather as well as matching door panels and dashboard trim. Amenities include lap belts, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, a clock, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 9,400 miles, which is said to reflect the distance accumulated under current ownership; true mileage is unknown. The tachometer was rebuilt in 2018.
The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four was factory rated at 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. The twin Mikuni carburetors were rebuilt and the oil was changed in 2018.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission. Corrosion, repair work, and leaks are noted on some underbody components.
Recent receipts will accompany the vehicle.
The car is titled under the number A1210428501267, which matches the body tag in the driver’s door jamb, shown above. The identification plate on the firewall near the battery shows sequences 121042 and 8502712 for the chassis number, which is consistent with a 1958 190SL. A redacted image of the title is provided in the gallery.
