Vehicle Overview
Our 5th Annual Monterey Car Week Collection Sale with Bring Trailer Auctions This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a Series I flat-floor roadster that is powered by a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors and linked with a four-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in red with a black soft top over black leather upholstery, and equipment includes a louvered hood, an AM/FM stereo, a black boot cover, glass headlight covers, four-wheel disc brakes, and knock-off 15? wire wheels. This XKE was acquired by the current owner on BaT in August 2023 and is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer as part of the Mohr Imports’ Monterey Car Week Collection at no reserve with a clean California title. This Series I is a flat-floor example that features a continuous floorboard under each seat. The bodywork is finished in red, and exterior details include a replacement black soft top and boot cover, a louvered hood, glass headlight covers, and twin central exhaust outlets. The trunk lid does not sit flush on the driver’s side, and various blemishes are pointed out in the gallery, which also contains paint meter readings taken from around the body. Chrome 15? wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare is housed in the trunk. Braking is via four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear units, and the car rides on GAZ shock absorbers. The cabin houses bucket seats that were reupholstered in black leather and are joined by a color-keyed dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include an AM/FM stereo, a height-adjustable rear-view mirror, lap belts, and toggle switches for vehicle functions. A wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a quartet of auxiliary gauges mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 14k miles, and total mileage is unknown. The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and polished valve covers. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual synchromesh transmission and a limited-slip differential. The exhaust system is said to have been replaced during prior ownership and features dual stainless-steel mufflers.
