This 1964 Datsun 1500 roadster is finished in red over beige fabric upholstery and powered by a 1,488cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Equipment includes a removable black soft top, front auxiliary lamps, 13” Enkei wheels, a side-facing rear seat, dual SU carburetors, and an Alpine AM/FM CD stereo. The car underwent a refurbishment in the late 1990s and was acquired by the current owner, Monterey Touring Vehicles, on BaT in December 2017 and subsequently used as part of their rental fleet. This SPL310 is now offered at no reserve as part of the Monterey Touring Vehicles collection with a clean California title.
The car was repainted its current shade of Ford Vermillion Red (E4) during the refurbishment, and the brightwork was reportedly re-chromed at that time. Exterior details include front auxiliary lamps, a removable black soft top, and a left-side mirror. Various dents and paint chips are present around the body, the left taillight reflector lens is missing, and the headlights are not functioning.
The 13” Enkei wheels are mounted with 185/70 Kumho Solus KR21 tires. A full-size spare is found in the trunk. Braking is via drums at all four corners.
The cabin is trimmed in beige fabric that also extends to the door panels and side-facing rear seat. Appointments consist of front lap belts, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, a push-button AM radio, and an Alpine AM/FM CD stereo wired to Pioneer speakers in the rear. Wear is noted on the outer bolster of the driver’s seat.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a faux-woodgrain instrument panel housing a replacement 120-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, as well as an analog clock and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 38k miles, around 1,500 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The fuel level and coolant temperature gauges are inoperable.
The 1,488cc inline-four is equipped with dual SU carburetors that were reportedly remanufactured by ZTherapy. The cylinder head is said to have been rebuilt in the late 1990s and a replacement wiring harness installed. The carburetors were cleaned and adjusted in 2019, and additional work that year included replacement of the spark plugs, points, ignition coil, and ignition wires. The radiator was repaired in 2021, and an electric cooling fan was installed the following year by Classic Coachworks of Monterey, California.
Engine stamping 84021 is shown above.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. Corrosion is present on the underside, and additional photos are provided in the gallery below. The clutch release cylinder was rebuilt and replacement lines installed in 2019.
