This 1975 BMW 3.0CS was sold new in Weinheim, Germany and was imported to San Francisco, California in 1982, when the current owner acquired the car. Finished in Taiga green over black cloth, it is powered by a numbers-matching 3.0-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes dual carburetors, fog lights, chrome wheel-arch trim, 14? wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and a Blaupunkt cassette player. The car was towed to a shop in May 2021 to get it running, and additional work is required. This E9 project runs, drives, and stops, and it is offered on dealership consignment with a folder of records and a clean California title that lists it as a 1973 model.

The car was delivered new in Taiga green (072) with PVC-free paint according to a sticker affixed in the engine bay. Features include chrome-finished wheel-arch trim and bumpers with guards. The selling dealer believes that the driver-side door has been replaced and notes that the side mirror is mounted in the incorrect position as well as that most of the lights are inoperable. Rust and other imperfections are noted around the exterior, and each panel is shown up close in the photo gallery below.

Silver-finished 14? wheels show BMW castings in their centers and wear faded roundel center caps. They are mounted with three Pirelli P4000 tires and one Kumho Power Star tire that show cracks in the sidewalls, and a Michelin spare is located in the trunk. Work in 2021 included topping off the brake fluid.

The interior features bolstered front bucket seats and a rear bench in black cloth upholstery with lighter textured inserts. A Blaupunkt cassette player is mounted in the center stack, and the interior lights are inoperable. A universal ignition switch was installed in May 2021, and the wiring harness is damaged with some portions burnt and missing.

A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of VDO instrumentation that includes a 240-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a clock, and a combination gauge. The selling dealer states that the gauges are inoperable, and the odometer shows 30k kilometers (~19k miles). True mileage is unknown.

The carbureted 3.0-liter inline-six is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Service by Classic Coachworks European Car Service of Monterey, California in May 2021 included repairing the alternator and the choke assembly, adjusting the carburetor and the clutch assembly to operate, rehanging the exhaust, and replacing coolant hoses, fuel hoses, the starter, and the battery. The car has a high idle, and page four of the receipt from Classic Coachworks in the gallery indicates that the “vehicle needs extensive repair—engine, drivetrain, wiring harness, floorboards, paint, etc.” A driving video is provided below.

The engine stamping reads +4300557+ and matches the serial number of the car.

Rust is noted throughout the floor, with signs of improper and incomplete previous repairs. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery.
