Vehicle Overview
1976 BMW 3.3Li
This 1976 BMW 3.3Li sedan is one of approximately 700 examples produced and is said to have remained in Germany before it was imported to the Netherlands in December 1983. It was reportedly stored for more than two decades before being refurbished in 2014, at which time the car was refinished in blue, the blue leather interior was refreshed, the suspension and braking systems were overhauled, and a replacement fuel-injected 3.2L inline-six and three-speed automatic transmission were installed. Equipment includes 14? alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, Koni shocks, a sunroof, power windows, and fog lights. The current owner acquired the car and imported it to the United States in 2022. This E3 is now offered on dealer consignment in California with manufacturer’s literature, multiple keys, and a clean Montana title in the name of a Dutch BV (private limited company).
The car has been refinished in blue, and the refurbishment reportedly consisted of refreshing the brightwork and replacing the bumper trim, window glass, and fog lights. Features include headlight wipers, amber turn signals, and European license-plate mounts as well as 3.3Li and Automatic badging.
Silver-colored 14? alloy wheels are mounted with 195/70 Michelin Energy Saver tires, and each corner is equipped with disc brakes. Koni Classic shocks were installed during the refurbishment, at which time the handbrake cable, brake discs, calipers, pads, brake lines, brake hoses, control arms, and suspension bushings are said to have been replaced.
The interior features blue leather upholstery on the front bucket seats and rear bench, while woodgrain trim accents the dashboard and door panels. Sound-deadening material was reportedly added under the carpeting, and the sunroof, windows, and mirrors are electrically operated. A textured white headliner was installed during the refurbishment, and dimples are visible near the dome light. The trunk has also been reupholstered, per the selling dealer.
A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of VDO instrumentation that includes a 220-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 26k kilometers (~16k miles). Total mileage is unknown.
According to the selling dealer, a replacement 3.2-liter inline-six equipped with Bosch Jetronic fuel injection was installed during the refurbishment. Additional work at that time reportedly consisted of replacing the valve covers, reconditioning the exhaust manifolds, and adding replacement engine-bay stickers. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. The transmission and fuel tank were reportedly replaced during the refurbishment, and additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
Various manuals and brochures will accompany the vehicle.
The selling dealer states that the car will not pass California emissions testing, and therefore it cannot be sold to an in-state private-party buyer.
